The Warded Man – Peter V. Brett

The Warded Man was recommended to me by my step-dad and I’m glad he did.  It is a masterfully written story that follows Arlen throughout a ravaged world where demons come to life every night.  It shows his struggles as he is betrayed time and time again and his ultimate triumph as he gathers his own strength to fight the demons.

We also follow Leesha, who is contantly dealing with abuse from her mother with little to no support from her pushover father.  She plunges herself into gaining knowledge to help others.

The third point of view in the book is that of Rojer.  We follow him as an infant and see his parents murdered as well as every person in his life killed by the demons.

The story that Peter writes that interweaves these three characters is amazing and the character progression that they all go through will keep you wanting more.  This is a strong first book in the series and it can only get better from here.
