Clockwork Angel – Cassandra Clare

A friend of mine recommended this book to me as she is a fan of fantasy books as well.  It has all the right elements of a good book, vampires, angels, demons, fighting, inventing crazy contraptions to help in the fights, but I just couldn’t really get into this book.

The action scenes and lore of the various races were really interesting, but I couldn’t relate to the characters.  They were all so disconnected or mysterious that I just didn’t understand what their intentions were.  The girls, for instance, were so worried about gender roles and stereo types along with trying to find a husband the entire time that it just got to be too much.  The guys were all just really moody and acted randomly whenever they were around girls.  I am struggling to start the second book of the series as I’m guessing that it’ll be more of the same with the characters.  There wasn’t really any character progression in the first book, but I’d have to imagine that it gets better as the series goes on.  Let me know if you’ve read this and if it’s worth reading the other books.
