The Maze Runner is a great first book in a great series. It starts out with not really knowing anything. Everyone has had their memories erased and all they know is their name. It follows several young adults through the maze and how a secret corporation is testing them in order to stop whatever the flare is. It slowly reveals glimpses of what is going on and why it’s happening, but leaves the reader wanting more. It’s a great first book in the trilogy and sets up the series nicely.
There’s also a prequel to the series that was released after the original trilogy was released, but reading the prequel before the Maze Runner trilogy would be a mistake. The way it answers your questions and the air of mystery that makes the series so good would be lost if you had all the answers coming in from the prequel. All in all it’s a great book and I would recommend it to anyone.
